A PUPPY’S FIRST EXPERIENCES WITH A GROOMING SALON CAN SET THE SCENE FOR HOW THEY WILL FEEL WITH BEING GROOMED FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE. SO ITS IMPORTANT TO MAKE THE EXPERIENCE AS PLEASANT AND FUN AS POSSIBLE!
What age to groom:
Many people ask about the best age which they start grooming their puppy. A puppy’s first visit to the groomer can start from around 12 to 14 weeks old, after puppy has had his or her vaccinations. With the younger puppies, they are more playful and easier to train so a positive early experience with dog grooming will set the stage for a more relaxed longer term grooming experience. This will help for when you groom your dog at home.

Your first visit with the groomer:
Your puppy's first visit should be relaxing and fun. Lots of cuddles, treats, a gentle bath, dry and groom can happen here depending on how they react to each of the experiences. I will always groom at your puppy's pace.
They are gently introduced to having their nails tipped, ears cleaned the sound of the clipper. This should feel like fun to the puppy. It is important for the puppy to start learning the house rules on grooming, very carefully and gently being reminded how to behave with rewards for demonstrating what they have learned.
To help keep your puppy in tip top shape, you can ask the groomer about how best you can maintain the grooming yourself at home. This will reinforce the good habits, keep the grooming time to a minimum and help to continue with keeping your puppy happy through the rest of their lives. We work together to ensure that after a good initial experience, your puppy thinks of the groomers as a loving place and one they look forward to visiting.
Best of all, familiarisation visits are FREE for puppies under 16 weeks old at Dog's Life Grooming.
